COURSEWORK PRELIMINARY EXCERCISE

 1) Write a 100 word statement of intent explaining what you are going to make for your preliminary exercise.

-I plan to make a 30-40 seconds advert about a teenage girl that is doing an excercise where she runs around the park. At the beginning of the advert shows how she prepares for her run. Where there are sounds of her unzipping her bag, taking out a hair tie then tying her hair. She then takes out the drink and put it beside her bag before running. This part is where there is a low sound with a negative tone. The camera shot at the part is a medium shot as she does her work. By the start of her run she have more energy and as she gets by the end of her lap she gets tired and vulnerable. This part is where she drinks a healthy drink which makes her feel more motivated and after she drinks this she gets more energised. As she runs the shot is establishing shot and as the character runs closer the camera follows her movement. In this video her custome is her wearing a sports top and leggings or jogging pants.

2) Write a script for your preliminary exercise on your blog. This needs to include stage directions AND dialogue. To see how a TV drama script is presented, and to look at professional examples, check out the BBC Writers' Room and click on Script Library. These will not be advert scripts but the layout will be the same.

  1. Character arrives at the park with her things.
  2. Puts her bag down on the grass and sits down to fix her shoelace.
  3. Opens her bag and gets her hair tie and ties her hair.
  4. Gets the product out and puts it beside her things.
  5. Starts to stretch as her warm-up before she goes for a run.
  6. Runs one lap as she continues to run she gets more tired.
  7. Walks back to her things
  8. Gets the drink (Get More Vits) and drinks it
  9. After a few minutes she runs again with more energy
Dialogue: voiceover of the slogan which is "Be fit, Don't quit, Get More Vits"

3) Casting: Who will be in your preliminary exercise advert?

-The character in my preliminary exercise advert is Kim.

4) Plan your locations: Where you will film your preliminary exercise? (You can film off-site if you wish to do this for homework - this is what we would strongly recommend). Important note: You CANNOT take any students out of any other lessons OR disturb any other lessons in the school. If you wish to film in-school then you will need to film with Mr Ray supervising or after school with a Media teacher present.

-For my location I would choose the park and I would like to do this as a homework.

5) Write your shot list: every shot you plan to film. This needs to be far MORE shots than you will actually use in the final edited version - plan extra angles, close-ups, long shots and more. You can find an example shot list here. This is for a narrative film but the layout will be the same.

  • Medium Shot
  • Establishing shot
  • Close up shot of the product
  • Long shot
  • Long Angle
