AUDIENCE EFFECTS THEORY

 1. Passive- This is the view that audiences passively take in information from the media and that these messages have the same effect on everyone.

2.Active- This is the modern and generally accepted view that audiences interact with and make conscious choices regarding the media they consume.

3.Hypodermic Needle Theory- This is the suggestion that audiences are always passive and therefore take the intended message from the producer as if it was injected into their minds . This assumes no individual difference in audience members.

4. Media product:

Information/surveillance: The Times newspaper

>Why: It tells audiences important information about politics, the world and more.

Personality Identity: Language

>Why: The audience can sympathize with other people.

Diversion/Entertainment: Action films

>Why: The audience will be able to feel relaxed and would be able to get away from their problems as they forget about it while watching films.

Relationships: Friendship

>Why: The audience will feel that they have someone with them, they're not alone.

5. The Blue Planet shared information and surveillance to the audience by showing how creature in the ocean live; what it's like to see the beauty of the ocean. Showing how pollution may affect the creatures under the sea. They also shared identity to the audience by showing how these creatures also strive like human beings to live a wonderful life. In addition they show how creatures are also struggling to live as the world is not perfect. They shared diversion and entertainment by presenting the underwater as the creatures dive in and sway. Making the documentary calm to make the audience feel escapism while watching it. They also shared relationships by showing how creatures underwater relate to each other, swimming with other creatures without hurting each other. They also used Visceral Pleasure by containing the documentary with a thrill. Going deep under the blue ocean, the camera placed deep down the blue ocean where all that the audience would see is the darkness of it except the other creatures that they focused the light to. They also used Vicarious Pleasure where they showed how soothing it is to be underwater with the other creatures. In addition they used Voyeuristic Pleasure where they showed how to be in between the corals swaying, also shows the point of view of other creatures.

Extension:1

They used information and surveillance by showing that there are some things in other families that others don't know; that there are some things that we're not expecting. They also used identity by making a film that contains being gay and lesbian which makes some of the audience to relate to it, that it is hard for them to keep it a secret as other people might judge them. They also used diversion and entertainment where they made the character yell at her parents which would be distracting for people as the character didn't show respect because she was hurt as her parents didn't tell her that her boyfriend already have a family without her knowing. In addition they used relationships by showing how her and her family forms interaction with each other and how she would react if her parents lie to her, they also shows how a daughter would react if she has been hurt by her parents by lying to her and on top of that everybody knows that her boyfriend have a family. They used visceral pleasure by making the film with secrets and showing the part where the audience might have known that the parents were keeping secrets from her and the part where she realized that her parents knew about her boyfriends secrets and the parents didn't do anything. They also used Vicarious pleasure by showing that the mother doesn't mind if her son or daughter is lesbian or gay as most parents would mind. In addition they also used Voyeuristic pleasure by making the girl realized what is going on; she went back to reality that she doesn't deserve to be with someone that she was forced to be with.

Extension:2

I agree that most people believe in mostly everything that they see in the media text because this generation is very modern where most people would just search in the internet to get the answer that they wanted. They might have also believe on what they see because of famous celebrities as celebrities are all over social media, people just tend to copy them. I might also disagree because most people can control their emotion that they might not agree with what's on the internet as they think that it is wrong. Others might also disagree because they have different perspectives and experiences.
