DENOTATION AND CONNOTATION

POINT:

The producer of the advert (Water Aid) is trying to convey the message that this people who are trying to live their life can't live properly as they don't have a proper toilet that they tend to dig on the ground to be able to defaecate themselves. These people doesn't have enough supply to provide their life with the things that they need. As a result they end up eating and drinking their own feces.

EVIDENCE:

They do this by showing in the slogan "Dig toilets Not Graves" this means that they need a toilet because they can't life the way others do as they eat and drink their food and water with bacteria or germs on it, these people have a high chance to capture a disease. The background shows that the kid lives from somewhere that may be hot and the wall behind the kid looks dry. The look on the kids face looks like he is unhappy and kind of look like he is asking for help as what the slogan says.

EFFECT ON AUDIENCE:

This suggests to the audience that these people need help, that also tells that they needed help from the charity as well as from the government as they are not treated properly like other people are treated.

POINT:

The producer of the advert is trying to convey the message that once we use a cigarette our life will change on how we live and how we feel. It tells on the extract "A warm welcome to death" the word "warm" tells us that every cigarette that you smoke takes your life minute by minute. Smoking can lead your body to have cancer, lung disease and stroke which means that this advert is telling people who smoke to stop as soon as possible.

EVIDENCE:

They do this by showing a man entering inside the tip of the cigarette as there shows a door already open. This also means that once you enter inside the cigarette and when you reached the very end of it your taking your life as every cigarette you smoke can lead you to something that you may nit be expecting. The background is plain with a white and a little bit of grey which may mean that your in a place alone or having your own world, because once you started smoking you won't be able to stop yourself from having more and your brain is telling you to stop while your whole body is struggling.

EFFECT ON AUDIENCE:

This suggests to the audience to stop smoking as you might be taking your life when you don't even know. It also suggests that smoking can lead to death.
